Eye Examinations

At The Village Optician we allow 45 minutes for your eye examination and 60 minutes for an enhanced consultation. We appreciate that your time is valuable, and we want to make sure we get things right for you first time. Our clients choose The Village Optician because they want to see an expert, someone they can trust and have confidence in.

Most high street opticians do an eye exam in about 20 to 25 mins. The extra time we spend with you makes for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. More time to find out about YOU, so you can tell us what type of work you do, and what you use your eyes for, and what you really want from your eyewear. All of that means you’ll get better advice and visual solutions because it’s tailored to you. All examination and consultation types are covered by our eye-care plan which is £6.95 a month.

Our fees and information about our eyecare plan can be found here.

EXCEPTIONAL EVERYTIME

Enhanced Consultation

Our fully enhanced consultation offers the highest standard of eye examination and takes 60 minutes.  It is currently only available at selected branches. It includes Optomap ultra wide field retina scanning and OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scanning. We do offer a partly enhanced examination with either Optomap or OCT scans.

Optomap ultrawide scanning allows us to see more of the retina than ever before - up to 80% of the back of the eye rather than around 20% during a normal eye test.

OCT technology is a bit like the eye’s version of an MRI-scan or ultrasound. It allows us to look at the layers of the retina (the back of the eye) rather than just looking at the top of the retina – a bit like looking down onto a cake, we can see the icing but can’t see the layers inside the cake. The OCT allows us to see these layers.

The 3 main benefits of enhanced examinations are:

1

It provides additional peace of mind and reassurance that your eyes are as healthy as we think they are.

2

It allows us to detect signs of eye disease at a much earlier stage, often years before we can detect problems with more traditional methods of examination. Early detection of eye disease allows for better protection of your vision.

3

It provides a permanent, digital record of how your eyes look at a specific moment in time, providing a baseline for all future visits. Uniquely, the OCT software can analyse subsequent scans to detect signs of change that may be the indication of early eye disease.
